What gets you hired – and what’s quietly working against you?

We’re bringing together copywriters, in-house hiring managers and recruiters for an honest conversation about what really happens on the other side of the hiring process. Expect practical advice, uncomfortable truths, and a few long-held beliefs challenged along the way.

The Session

Opening Audience Poll We’ll start by surveying the room. Where are you in your career? What do you think matters most when applying for a role? What’s the hardest part of the job search? The results go up on screen in real time, and set the agenda for everything that follows. The panel reacts to what the room actually needs, not what they’ve prepared.

The Hiring Journey We’ll walk through the process from the employer’s side: stage by stage, with real stories and honest answers. What happens before a role is even posted. What 150 applications look like from a hiring manager’s desk. How two similar candidates get separated in an interview. At each stage, we’ll uncover where good candidates are accidentally eliminating themselves, and what you can do differently.

Myth or Reality Four bold statements about getting hired as a copywriter. Each one goes up on screen. The panel holds up their cards: MYTH or REALITY. Then we dig into the disagreements. Statements include claims about portfolio attention spans, whether the cover letter is dead, how easy it is to spot AI-generated work, and whether most jobs are filled before they’re ever advertised.

Audience Q&A Your questions, answered directly. The only rule: every answer has to include something you can actually do. No vague advice allowed.

The Checklist Throughout the session, our host will be building a live checklist of practical, actionable takeaways on screen, every concrete insight pulled from the conversation in real time. By the end, you’ll walk away with a ready-made action plan you can start working through immediately.
