Accessibility

Built so the conference works for the people in it.

An online conference for working copywriters has to work for the working copywriter who’s deaf, who’s hard of sight, who’s on a screen reader, who’s on a phone with one hand free, who’s on a flaky connection. None of those are edge cases for us — they are the audience.

This site aims to meet Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.2 at AA level. The conference itself aims for the same standard plus live-captioning on every session, transcripts within 7 days, and access-requirement support for any attendee who emails ahead.

  • Keyboard-navigable throughout (skip-link, focus rings, no keyboard traps).
  • Tested with VoiceOver (macOS, iOS) and NVDA (Windows).
  • Colour contrast at AA or better. Lavender accents are decorative, never the only signal.
  • Reduced-motion preference respected (no parallax, no auto-playing animation).
  • Text sized in em/rem; zoom to 200% without horizontal scroll.

We’ve not finished. The following are open and tracked for the next sprint:

  • Some embedded form labels need keyboard-only refinement.
  • The schedule’s timezone switcher doesn’t announce its new state to screen readers loudly enough.
  • One or two PDF downloads aren’t tagged for screen readers yet.

Live-captioned sessions, transcripts within 7 days, an access-requirements field on the ticket form, BSL interpretation by request (please email at least 4 weeks ahead). Quiet rooms in the breakout schedule. CPD certificates available on request.

If something on this site or at the conference doesn’t work for you — say so. We treat every report as a real bug. Email access@copycon.uk; we’ll reply within five working days, even if the fix takes longer.
