Sam Knowles

Chief Data Storyteller, Insight Agents

Sam Knowles is the founder and MD of data storytelling consultancy Insight Agents. He helps organisations make smarter use of data – in how they communicate and in how they develop innovative products and services.

He is a Fellow of both the Royal Society of Arts and the Professional Speaking Association.

An established and sought-after keynote speaker, trainer, and podcaster, Sam co-founded and co-hosts the Small Data Forum podcast, “a sideways look at the uses and abuses of data big and small in politics, business, and public life”. Sam is the author of the ‘Using Data Better’ trilogy of books, published by Routledge.

This includes 2018’s award-winning Narrative by Numbers, 2020’s best-seller How To Be Insightful, and 2022’s critically-acclaimed Asking Smarter Questions. Sam’s appreciation of the power of storytelling was honed during a first degree in Classics in the late 1980s. His love of telling stories with data was refined during a master’s and then a doctorate in experimental psychology in the early 2000s.
