LinkedIn or Locked Out? How to Build Your Brand on Social Media

Jo Watson

The alternative title of my talk was going to be “This isn’t Facebook”, in homage to the Trolls of LinkedIn who refuse to see ‘their’ platform as an effective social media network where, shock horror, professionalism can indeed have a personality. Hell, it may even take off its tie and have a beer every now and then.

Though my ideas, tips and anecdotes will relate to LinkedIn, my workshop focuses on things that can apply across all social media channels when building and promoting personal branding as a copywriter.

I know absolutely nothing about algorithms, hacks or any kind of techy tricks (well, maybe one or two), but I do know how LinkedIn started working for me as a professional copywriter. It brings me clients, but more importantly, it saves me from tyre kickers and timewasters.

I’m hoping that what I share will spark some ideas that anyone who suffers through my sixty minutes can take away immediately and implement – simply by using their words effectively (and I already know you’re amazing at that).
